Winter-blooming peonies - Hase-dera,Nara

These are peonies that bloom in winter. They are rare species.
They are protected by straw cover, against cold weather in January.
They're blooming beautifully, enduring freezing weather.
And their straw tents are so lovely :)

  1. It's the first time I hear this! Winter peonies! Now I really envy you! I love peonies and have some in my garden. The usual ones are blooming nicely but the shrub peonies are very sensitive (I still have 2 of these). Do you know that if you move them, they will not bloom for years?

  2. @Traveling Hawk,

    Thank you,Traveling Hawk:)
I seached that by internet,(cause I don't know very well about that) it says that September 20 - November is the best season to move peonies. it says that you should avoid other seasons, because peonies are very sensitive, like you said.
